    <description descriptionType="Abstract">&lt;p&gt;Remote sensing data is contaminated with different types&amp;nbsp;of noise that can severely affect the analysis of this data. Generally, in&amp;nbsp;modern treatment chains of satellite and aerial data,&amp;nbsp;denoising techniques are applied to atmospherically corrected&amp;nbsp;images prior to&amp;nbsp;further analysis (e.g., classification). However, since the noise contaminates the measured radiance at&amp;nbsp;the sensor, it can influence the&amp;nbsp;atmospheric correction in itself&amp;nbsp;and consequently the remaining of the processing chain. In&amp;nbsp;this paper, we compare the performance of&amp;nbsp;a denoising technique, when applied before or after atmospheric correction.&amp;nbsp;Our observations challenge the current de facto paradigm&amp;nbsp;of&amp;nbsp;denoising in a processing chain of spaceborne and airborne&amp;nbsp;remotely sensed images.&lt;/p&gt;
