How to find Records with the RODARE-Search

by Maik Fiedler on August 28, 2024

In RODARE, users have a variety of filter and search options available to search for records both specifically and exploratively. This blog post highlights some important options. These functions are particularly useful for the specific research areas of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), such as materials research and radiation physics. Additionally, they enable access to data obtained with HZDR’s state-of-the-art large-scale devfacilities, such as the ELBE accelerator.

Since RODARE startet in 2018 you can filter the RECORDS with the following options (See Screenshot):

  • ACCESS RIGHT
  • FILE TYPE
  • KEYWORDS
  • TYPE

Of course, you can also compile subsets of records according to other aspects by making targeted queries in the RODARE search mask.

You can request the existence of the search terms using either the AND operator. Please note that you must capitalise AND.

Example: facility AND measurement

You can search for records that have a term in the title. The results correspond to records with the open term in the TITLE field.

Example: title:facility

If you want to search for several terms in the TITLE field, you must group the terms using brackets (and operators).

Example: title:(facility measurement)

You can also limit search ranges and display all records that lie within this range.

Example: publication_date:[2020-01-01 TO 2021-01-01] (note that you must capitalise TO).

The results correspond to all entries with a publication date between 2020-01-01 and 2021-01-01 (both dates inclusive). Use square brackets ([]) for inclusive ranges and curly brackets ({}) for exclusive ranges, e.g:
[2020-01-01 UNTIL 2021-01-01} is equivalent to [2020-01-01 UNTIL 2020-12-31].

Examples for other ranges:

publication_date:{* TO 2022-01-01}: All days until 2022.

publication_date:[2022-01-01 TO *]: All days from 2022.

size:[1000000 TO *]: File size bigger than 1MB.

size:>1000000: File size bigger than 1MB.

size:>=1000000: File size bigger than or equal to 1MB.

And finally, you can of course also combine search terms and search ranges. For example, if you want to find out which records from a certain community/research device have been published within a certain period of time, then use this:

Examples:

communities:elbe AND publication_date:[2023-01-01 TO 2023-12-31]: All ELBE-Records from 2023.

access_right:open AND publication_date:[2024-01-01 TO *]: All Open Access Records till 2024.

communities:ibc AND access_right:open AND publication_date:[2022-01-01 TO *]: All Open Access Record from IBC till 2022
